Good Morning

Yesterday, Connor and I went out for a short birding trip around Edmonton. A highlight from the day was seeing a leucistic mallard duck. Leucism is a term used to describe animals that have a loss of pigmentation. There are a variety of causes. It differs from albanism in that some color is still present.

Considering all of the thousands of mallards we have seen over the years, this first leucistic one is very rare. That is an American Coot behind it.
