June 26

It took two trips in one day but we were successful in finding the Black-billed Cuckoo yesterday. Black-billed Cuckoos are rare in Alberta with a couple of sightings reported each year. Even when you know where they are, they are hard to see as they skulk in the deep brush.

Connor and I headed out at 7 am yesterday and got to the place where it had been reported at 8:20 a.m.. We were informed we had missed hearing it call by 20 minutes. We stayed until 10:30 a.m. but no luck. We returned at 8 p.m. and were rewarded when it began to sing at 8:30 p.m. and then flew into view for a few seconds. It was active until 9 p.m. and we left a half hour later.

Stay well !
