March 1
We went to Jasper for the weekend. We had a wonderful time hiking on frozen rivers and in canyons with a bit of birdwatching thrown in.
We had a great session with an American Dipper. This little bird lives in mountain streams and actually goes underwater in search of prey. The water in the river is from Medicine Lake and runs above ground and below ground. The water in the winter is warmer than in the summer due to a lower flow rate resulting in a longer time flowing underground and being heated up. It is around 5°C in the winter. Even so, it is chilly.
Stay well and dry !
