February 18

On Monday, our friend, Philippa, sent me an article from Britain about birders being fined for leaving their Covid designated home area to go see a rare bird. A Northern Mocking bird was spotted in Exmouth. It is the third time it has been recorded in Britain and first time in thirty years, so for most, a once in a lifetime event.

By coincidence, Connor and I had traveled to Calgary on the weekend to see a Northern Mockingbird, a rarity for Alberta. However, there are normally one or two a year spotted in the province, but rarely in winter.

They are common about 300 miles south of the US Canada border. This one survived the polar vortex and ten days of very cold weather.

Stay well and warm !
