Did you miss us?

We all went to Jasper for the week to celebrate Hailey 18th birthday! 

We did some hiking, kayaking and sightseeing. It was a great week.

One of the highlights was when Sheryl spotted a White-tailed Ptarmigan chick at the top of Whistler’s Mountain. Connor and I were focused on a butterfly when Sheryl what is that. Needless to say , Sheryl and Hailey continued on the hike while Connor and I stayed behind to captures-me images.

We had only seen one other white-tailed ptarmigan near Kananaskis in November 2018.

They are found at the top of mountains and we don’t get to the top of mountains very often. And when you do, you will be hard pressed to see them if they don’t move.

So Sheryl made major find. The little chick was wandering around a few meters from its mother. When it realized we were watching it, it moved into the shadow of a rock and disappeared. After a while it moved very slowly until it was besides its mother. It was fascinating to watch what looked like a slow motion walk.
