August 30

Good Morning

We just returned from a family weekend trip to Lily Lake BC to visit Sheryl’s sister and brother-in-law. We had a great time at the cabin. A natural highlight of the trip was a surprise visit from a Northern Flying Squirrel. This little critter came swooping in as we sat on the patio , landed on the tree beside us and made its way to the bird feeder. The was first for all of us.

Although these squirrels are common, their nocturnal behavior makes sitings rare. It took Connor’s  steady hand (1/6 second shutter speed, F5.0 and ISO 10000) and my post processing to put together this shot!. The skin membrane that forms the “wings” can be seen between the legs.

Stay well
