I revisited some images from April 6 of this year. A very co-operative Rough-legged Hawk allowed me to get very close to it while it was on the ground. These birds migrate through the Edmonton area in the fall and late winter. They breed in the arctic and winter in Southern Alberta and the Northern US. You can tell them at a distance because they often hover while searching for prey,
I shared an image of this bird taking off in early April ( I am sure you all recall). I like this one of it posing on the ground in the snow covered stubble field.
