Happy St. Patricks Day!

So when is a Canada Goose not a Canada Goose? When it is a Cackling Goose. Just think of the Cackling Goose as a mini me of the Canada Goose. They are far less common than the Canada Goose and birders find great pleasure in looking through a large flock of Canada Geese playing “One of these things is not like the others” just as they learned on Sesame Street.

Today, I played the game and found about ten Cackling Geese in amongst a few hundred Canada Geese. I was able to get some good comparative images so you can see the difference. The Canada Goose is about 45” long and the Cackling Goose is about 25”. In flight, you can notice the shorter neck on the Cackling Goose.

Stay well !
