Connor and I spent a beautiful weekend in the Brooks area. At this time of year, shorebirds are migrating through the area. A couple that can only be found in larger numbers in that area of the province are the Black-belied Plover and the Red Knot. From Birds of the World:

The Black-bellied Plover, known as the Grey Plover in the Old World, breeds widely in the high Arctic of North America and Eurasia and overwinters over a broad latitudinal range—equally at home in temperate and tropical climates, it is truly one of the most wide-ranging shorebird species. Within North America, the species breeds from western Alaska through the Canadian Arctic Archipelago and overwinters along the Gulf, Atlantic, and Pacific coasts as far north as British Columbia and Massachusetts.

Red Knots are noted for their extraordinary long-distance migrations -- up to 15,000 km between circumpolar breeding habitats and marine wintering habitats in southern latitudes of South America, Africa, Europe, Australia and New ZealandStay well !
