This is a bird that we do not see often. It is common but specializes in hunting in the forests and not soaring above the prairies. It is a Broad-winged Hawk. They come in two color varieties: light and dark morphs. This one is a dark morph which occurs in less than 1 % of the population. It was nice that the bird switched poses to give me a front and back view
