Good Morning

We are back from Cold Lake. This was a more relaxed trip as the birds are not calling early in the morning so the need to rise early was somewhat diminished. We saw lots of birds in mixed flocks and many feeding young fledglings. Since we were in Cold Lake a t the beginning of June , the birds have bred, hatched eggs and raised young that are now flying around. Quite remarkable at how quickly they grow.

Back to Wateron. We enjoyed seeing lots of Calliope and Rufous Hummingbirds. A highlight was discovering a Calliope Hummingbird nest along the walkway beside Red Rock canyon. Three hummingbirds went zooming by us and we watched one land on a tree and then makes its way to a nest. It is increadably small and very well camouflaged.

Stay well.

The Calliope Hummingbird is the smallest bird in North America at 3.25 ‘’ long and found in the southern Rockies in Alberta. High five little buddy  (or four in your case)
