April 3

I was looking at some photo books of mine at my Mom’s a month ago. I came across this image from August 2016 that I forgot I had. We took a boat trip from Campbell River up to the Johnson Strait on the Inside Passage of Vancouver Island. We were hoping to see orca but they were elusive that day. We did see a lot of humpbacks and even one that was breaching. The challenge with capturing a breaching whale is that the breach lasts less than two seconds. So you have to have your camera pointed in the right direction in order to capture it. This whale breached several times in the same area so I was able to get a few shots.

Think of the power it takes to lift the whale out of the water!

Stay well !
