I went back to look at some of my previous Barred Owl images. It is interesting to see how the light changes the coloration of the bird.
The first image is from a ravine near our house and was taken in January, 2017. I was dropping Connor off at ski lessons and we spotted the owl along the road. I returned and watched it hunt. It was not successful while I was there but it it is the only time I have seen a Barred Owl hunt. They normally are nocturnal but will hunt during the day if it is very cold outside.
The second image is from an apartment building courtyard in downtown Vancouver. We were staying at a friend’s apartment last November and this owl decided to roost there. Each morning we would be woken by crows pestering the owl. It only stayed in this courtyard for a week and we were lucky to be there when it was there.
